On Tuesday, February 11th, Basque Living showroom in Madrid hosted the first of three events organized during this month during Madrid Design Festival: Women in architecture and design.
We had the collaboration of Marta Parra, co-founder of Parra-Müller Arquitectura de Maternidades, Silvia Ceñal, founder of Silvia Ceñal Design Studio, and Ángeles Pienovi and Silvina López, architects from L35 studio.
The session began with a small documentary on the experiences in the world of architecture of Elena Usabiaga, of Pauzarq Arquitectos, Elisa de los Reyes, of Pez Estudio, and Rocío Peña, of Peña-Ganchegui y Asociados. Later on, our four guests started their presentations in which they explained what they do.
Marta Parra was the first speaker. She spoke about the importance of caring for spaces destined for situations as delicate as bringing life to the world. She explained how the design of this kind of spaces afects people’s physical and emotional feeling, and demonstrated, with data, the benefits that this type of architecture have had in mothers who gave birth in the spaces designed by her and her partner, Angela Müller, from Parra-Müller Maternity Architecture.
Silvia Ceñal told us about her experience as a product designer through her personal project, Silvia Ceñal Design Studio, which she launched in 2015. She showed some of the collaborations carried out to date, with brands such as Ondarreta or LUFE, as well as her project with Naia Querejeta, “Ohi Design Project”, which is dedicated to designing around the reissue of Basque furniture.
The last presentation was made by Ángeles Pienovi and Silvina López, Argentine architects from the international study L35. During their presentation, they talked about various projects they had carried out with their team and expressed their satisfaction being part of such a familiar team with a good working environment that they enjoy at the L35 offices in Madrid.
After that, a round of questions was opened among the audience. During this time, they were asked, among other questions, about the difficulties and challenges they, as working women had encountered throughout their working lives.
The event ended with a cocktail with the audience while a relaxed networking atmosphere was generated among the attendees.
